This book is a modern commentary on the great Christian mystical text The Interior Castle written by St Teresa of Avila in sixteenth century Spain. It seeks to encourage and assist modern pilgrims towards a more heart-centred, contemplative and intimate relationship with God through presenting and exploring the saint's own spiritual writings and guidance. As well as being a manual for spiritual direction, Towards Mystical Union is also intended to be a contribution to the interface between modern depth psychology, contemplative prayer and the Christian mystical tradition. Through inspiration and experience, the author has found St Teresa to be a vitally important teacher and spiritual guide.
