Erwin Rohde was a German classical philologist known for his scholarly work on ancient texts and his correspondence with Friedrich Nietzsche.

Erwin Rohde was a German classical philologist born in Weimar on February 8, 1850. He pursued his academic studies at the universities of Göttingen and Leipzig, successfully completing his habilitation in 1876. Rohde then embarked on a professorial career, holding a position in classical philology at the University of Heidelberg starting in 1877. His academic contributions primarily focused on classical literature, particularly ancient Greek and Roman authors. He was involved in significant editorial projects and scholarly publications during his lifetime. Rohde passed away in Rottweil on September 14, 1919.

His scholarly work included co-editing a comprehensive four-volume edition of the comedies of Plautus. Rohde also played a role in disseminating the work of other scholars, including publishing an edition of Erwin Rohde's smaller writings in 1901. Furthermore, in collaboration with Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche, he published "Friedrich Nietzsches briefwechsel mit Erwin Rohde" (Friedrich Nietzsche's correspondence with Erwin Rohde) in 1902. This correspondence was also included in the larger collection of "Friedrich Nietzsches Gesammelte Briefe" (Friedrich Nietzsche's collected letters), a multi-volume work published between 1902 and 1909.
