Stephan A. Hoeller was an American author and lecturer recognized for his work on Gnosticism and Jungian psychology. He held the position of Regionary Bishop within the Ecclesia Gnostica. Hoeller's background included ordination as a priest in the American Catholic Church in 1958 and consecration as a bishop in 1967. Following the death of Richard Duc de Palatine, Hoeller renamed Palatine's church to Ecclesia Gnostica and continued in his episcopal role.

His extensive lecturing career took him to numerous countries, including Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and several European nations, as well as across the United States. His writings appeared in publications such as Gnosis and Quest Magazine, further disseminating his ideas on esoteric subjects.

Gnostic and Jungian Scholarship

Stephan A. Hoeller dedicated a significant portion of his career to exploring and explaining Gnosticism and its connections to Jungian psychology. He authored books and articles that delved into the ancient Gnostic traditions, aiming to shed new light on this path of inner knowing. His work often sought to bridge the insights of Carl Jung with the mystical and philosophical underpinnings of Gnosticism, presenting these complex subjects to a wider audience. Hoeller's approach aimed to make these esoteric concepts accessible through his lectures and published works.

Episcopal Ministry and Esoteric Affiliations

As a neo-Gnostic bishop, Hoeller served as the Regionary Bishop of the Ecclesia Gnostica. His ecclesiastical journey began with ordination in the American Catholic Church before his consecration as a bishop. After assuming leadership of the Pre-Nicene Gnostic Catholic Church, he renamed it Ecclesia Gnostica. Beyond his direct spiritual leadership, Hoeller was involved with prominent esoteric organizations. He was a member of the lecturing faculty at the Philosophical Research Society, founded by Manly P. Hall, and a speaker for the Theosophical Society in America, indicating his broad engagement within the Western esoteric landscape.
