Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, on November 19, 1961, Terri Britt, then Terri Utley, was involved in civic youth programs and held a leadership position as vice-president of her high school class. Her significant achievement in pageantry began in 1982 when she won the Miss Arkansas USA title. Later that year, she was crowned Miss USA 1982 at the age of twenty. Britt represented the United States at the Miss Universe pageant in Lima, Peru, where her national costume featured a Native American theme. She achieved fourth runner-up status in that international competition. She holds the distinction of being the first woman from Arkansas to win the Miss USA title.
