Wang, Yangming

Wang Yangming was a prominent figure in the Neo-Confucian movement during the imperial era of Chinese philosophy. He is recognized as the leading proponent of the School of Mind, an influential philosophical tradition. His ideas emphasized the unity of knowledge and action, suggesting that true understanding inherently involves putting that knowledge into practice. This perspective contrasted with other schools of thought that might separate theoretical knowledge from practical application. Wang Yangming was the foremost proponent of the School of Mind, a significant development within Neo-Confucianism. This school of thought emphasized the innate moral knowledge present within each individual's mind. It posited that the mind itself is the ultimate reality and the source of all principles. Wang Yangming's philosophy suggested that understanding and moral cultivation are achieved through introspection and the direct apprehension of these innate principles, rather than solely through external study or adherence to prescribed rituals.
