Philip Steele is an English author primarily known for children's non-fiction, with a focus on history and cultures.

Born in 1948 in Dorking, Surrey, Philip Steele pursued higher education in Modern Languages at University College, Durham, completing his studies in 1971. The 1970s saw him working as an editor for several London-based publishing houses. In 1980, Steele relocated to the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales, which has since been his home.

His extensive writing career encompasses a broad spectrum of subjects, with a particular emphasis on history, biographies for young readers, and explorations of different peoples and cultures. Many of his publications are international co-editions featuring illustrations and translated into multiple languages, while others are tailored for the British audience. Additionally, Steele has authored books for adults that delve into the history and geography of North Wales.
