The Edgar Allan Poe Awards, or Edgars, are yearly honors presented by the Mystery Writers of America for excellence in mystery writing.
The Edgar Allan Poe Awards, often referred to as the Edgars, are annual accolades bestowed by the Mystery Writers of America. These awards are widely regarded as the most significant honors within the mystery writing field. In 1989, an award category specifically for Best Young Adult Mystery was introduced. This category is designated for books aimed at readers aged twelve to eighteen, corresponding to grades eight through twelve. Before the establishment of this dedicated young adult award, the Mystery Writers of America presented a special Edgar award to Katherine Paterson in 1977 for her work, The Master Puppeteer.
