Kate Riggs

Kate Rigg is a multifaceted artist recognized for her work as an actress, comedian, writer, and activist. She identifies as Queer Asian Canadian, Australian, and American. Rigg gained prominence for her role as a comedy correspondent on The Dr. Phil Show and for her "NuyorAsian" standup performances, which explore her experiences as a queer Asian woman living in New York. Her creative output extends to television, where she has developed and produced shows like "Dance Your Ass Off" for NBC Universal and "Cache Craze" for YTV, as well as the online series "Gonzo Girls."

Born and raised in Toronto, Rigg's early life involved a move at 17 to study at the University of Melbourne, followed by her relocation to New York to attend the Juilliard School. Post-Juilliard, she co-founded the comedy rock band Slanty Eyed Mama with Lyris Hung. This band uses comedy and punk rock to challenge Asian American stereotypes. Rigg has continued to develop standup shows that specifically address stereotypical portrayals of Asian American women. Her voice work includes a role in the fourth season of "Family Guy," and her tenure on "The Dr. Phil Show" spanned three seasons. In 2020, she participated in the virtual "We're Funny That Way!" event, earning a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Performance in a Variety or Sketch Comedy Program or Series.
