Deirdre Sullivan, an Irish writer and poet, was born in Galway and has since settled in Ranelagh, Dublin. Her career began after attending college and working as a teacher for autistic children. She pursued creative writing, taking a course with Siobhán Parkinson. Her first book was commissioned by her lecturer.
Sullivan's work has received significant recognition, with several books being shortlisted for awards. Notably, 'Tangleweed and Brine,' illustrated by Karen Vaughan, won the 28th CBI Book of the Year Awards. Her young adult novel 'Savage Her Reply' was recognized on the 2024 USBBY Outstanding International Books List. In 2021, her short story 'Little Lives' earned the 'Short Story of the Year' title at the Irish Book Awards. Sullivan also ventured into playwriting, with her debut play 'Wake' premiering in Galway in 2019.
