He utilizes two pen names: Johnathan Rand for his children's and young adult books, and Christopher Knight for his adult-oriented works. A significant portion of his writing, particularly under the Rand pseudonym, is set in his home state of Michigan, with the exception of the 'American Chillers' series. Wright's publishing journey began with a unique self-distribution method, personally delivering books to various establishments. This grassroots approach proved successful, leading to over a million copies sold by 2003. He also owns a bookstore named Chillermania! in Indian River, Michigan, which specializes in merchandise related to his popular book series.
