Janell Cannon

Janell Cannon is an American children's author and illustrator. She was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and developed an interest in painting with acrylics starting in the sixth grade. After graduating from Burnsville High School in 1975, she relocated to Southern California. Prior to her writing career, Cannon worked as a graphic artist for the Carlsbad public library for over a decade, from 1981 to 1993.

Her debut book, Stellaluna, published in 1993, tells the story of a baby fruit bat and has achieved significant recognition. It has been featured on lists of the 100 best children's books by organizations like the National Education Association and School Library Journal. The book's international appeal is evidenced by its translation into 30 different languages. Cannon has since authored several other books for children, including Trupp: A Fuzzhead Tale, Verdi, Crickwing, Little Yau: A Fuzzhead Tale, and Pinduli.
