James Chapelle Sallis (December 21, 1944 – January 27, 2026) was an American crime writer, poet, science fiction writer, and biographer who wrote a series of novels featuring the detective character Lew Griffin set in New Orleans, and the 2005 novel Drive, which was adapted into a 2011 film of the same name.
