George Hulskramer

Dora Kunz, born Dora van Gelder in the Dutch East Indies, was a prominent figure in the Theosophical Society. From a young age, she engaged in daily meditation and claimed interaction with ethereal beings, a belief supported by her clairvoyant mother. Her abilities were further honed under the tutelage of C. W. Leadbeater. She later moved to the United States with Fritz Kunz, whom she married, and became a naturalized American citizen.

Kunz became a leader in the Theosophical Society in America, serving as its president from 1975 to 1987. She co-developed the healing method known as Therapeutic Touch with Dr. Dolores Krieger, a technique reportedly derived from ancient Yogic texts and taught internationally. Kunz also directed her clairvoyance towards assisting physicians with diagnoses by interpreting the energetic fields and auras of patients, believing she could identify illnesses before physical symptoms appeared. Her writings explored themes of fairies, devas, and human energy fields, often connecting them to environmental consciousness.

Born Theodora Sophia van Gelder in 1904 on a sugar plantation in Java, Dora Kunz was raised in a household with parents who were members of the Theosophical Society. Her early life was marked by a daily meditation practice that began at age five. Kunz reported experiencing contact with spiritual entities from childhood, and her mother encouraged her perceived clairvoyant abilities. At eleven, she relocated to Australia to study with C. W. Leadbeater, an Anglican clergyman and psychic, who guided her in developing her psychic faculties.

Kunz became a significant contributor to alternative healing methods, most notably co-developing Therapeutic Touch with Dr. Dolores Krieger in 1972. This method, described as a pranic healing practice originating from ancient Sanskrit texts, aims to promote healing and reduce pain by working with the human energy field. Kunz also applied her clairvoyance to medical diagnoses, interpreting auras and energy centers (chakras) to identify diseases, sometimes reportedly predicting illnesses well before they manifested symptomatically. Her insights into the energetic aspects of human health have been taught in educational institutions globally.

In 1975, Dora Kunz assumed the presidency of the Theosophical Society in America, a role she held for twelve years. During her tenure and afterward, she authored books exploring her unique perspectives on the spiritual and esoteric realms. Her book 'The Real World of Fairies' (1977) detailed her lifelong communication with nature spirits and fairies, and she posited a connection between these beings and the Earth's vital energy. Kunz also wrote about devas, human energy fields, and chakras, suggesting a link between environmental awareness and the potential for human-deva communication.
