Daniel Cramer

James Joseph Cramer, born in 1955, is an American media figure, author, and former hedge fund manager. He gained prominence as the host of CNBC's 'Mad Money' and as a commentator on various financial news programs. Before his media career, Cramer earned degrees from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, subsequently working at Goldman Sachs and founding his own hedge fund, Cramer Berkowitz.

Cramer also co-founded TheStreet, a financial news website, and has authored several books on investing. Born in 1955 in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, James Joseph Cramer grew up in a family involved in business and the arts; his mother was an artist, and his father owned a packaging company. Cramer attended Springfield Township High School, where he was involved in track. His early interest in the stock market began as early as fourth grade. He pursued higher education at Harvard College, graduating magna cum laude with a degree in government in 1977. During his time at Harvard, he served as president and editor-in-chief of The Harvard Crimson. He later attended Harvard Law School, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1984, and began investing in the stock market while still a student, reportedly covering his tuition costs through trading.

After law school, Cramer worked briefly at Goldman Sachs in sales and trading. In 1987, he established his own hedge fund, Cramer & Co., later known as Cramer, Berkowitz & Co. He managed this fund until 2001, claiming to have achieved significant average annual returns. In 1996, he co-founded TheStreet, a financial news and investment website. Cramer also became a frequent commentator on CNBC, eventually leading to his own shows. CNBC has stated that Cramer is prohibited from owning stocks that are discussed on his show.
