Daniel Abrams

Daniel Abrams, born May 20, 1966, is an American media entrepreneur, television host, and author with a background in law and broadcasting. He currently hosts "On Patrol: Live" on Reelz and "The Dan Abrams Show" on SiriusXM. Abrams also serves as Chief Legal Analyst for ABC News. His television career includes hosting "Live PD" and "Dan Abrams Live," among other programs focusing on legal matters and news.

Beyond his broadcasting work, Abrams has established several media businesses, including news sites like Mediaite and Law&Crime, and ventures in sports and entertainment media. He has authored multiple books, several of which delve into historical legal cases and propelled him to bestseller status. Abrams also has experience as a restaurant co-owner and vineyard proprietor. He holds a bachelor's degree from Duke University and a law degree from Columbia Law School.

Daniel Abrams began his broadcasting career at Court TV, where he covered significant legal events such as the O. J. Simpson trial and the assisted-suicide trials of Dr. Jack Kevorkian. He transitioned to NBC News as a correspondent and later Chief Legal Correspondent, eventually hosting "The Abrams Report." Abrams also held managerial positions at MSNBC before returning his focus to hosting programs like "Live with Dan Abrams" and "Verdict with Dan Abrams." In 2011, he moved to ABC News as Chief Legal Analyst and substitute anchor, later becoming Chief Legal Affairs Anchor and an anchor for "Nightline." He stepped back from "Nightline" to concentrate on his business ventures but continued his role as Chief Legal Analyst. Abrams has also hosted "Live PD" on A&E, a show offering live coverage of police activity, and "Dan Abrams Live" on NewsNation. His current hosting duties include "On Patrol: Live" on Reelz and "The Dan Abrams Show" on SiriusXM.

In addition to his on-air roles, Daniel Abrams has founded and managed several media companies. In 2009, he launched Mediaite, a news website focused on media and politics. He also created Gossip Cop, a site dedicated to fact-checking celebrity news, which was later acquired. SportsGrid, a platform combining sports news with media analysis, was another venture he founded, later acquired by Anthem Media Group. Abrams also established The Mary Sue, a site focused on women in geek culture, and LawNewz, which evolved into Law&Crime, a legal news network live-streaming trials. Law&Crime was sold in 2023 for a significant sum. More recently, he launched Bottle Raiders, a platform for liquor ratings and events, now rebranded as The Daily Pour.

Daniel Abrams is also a prolific author, with several of his books becoming bestsellers. His debut book, "Man Down: Proof Beyond a Reasonable Doubt That Women Are Better Cops, Drivers, Gamblers, Spies, World Leaders, Beer Tasters, Hedge Fund Managers and Just About Everything Else," was a Washington Post bestseller. He has since co-written a series of books focusing on significant and often forgotten trials. Notable among these are "Lincoln’s Last Trial: The Murder Case That Propelled Him to The Presidency," which became a New York Times bestseller and received an award, and "Theodore Roosevelt for the Defense: The Courtroom Battle to Save His Legacy." His other works delve into historical legal battles, including "John Adams Under Fire: The Founding Father's Fight for Justice in the Boston Massacre Murder Trial" and "Kennedy's Avenger: Assassination, Conspiracy, and the Forgotten Trial of Jack Ruby." His 2022 book, "Alabama v. King: Martin Luther King Jr. and the Criminal Trial That Launched the Civil Rights Movement," examines a pivotal case in the Civil Rights era.
