D. D. Mehta

Gita Mehta, born in Delhi in 1943, was an Indian-American writer and documentary filmmaker who focused on portraying Indian life and culture, often for a Western readership. Her early life included education in India and at Cambridge University. As a journalist and filmmaker, she covered significant events like the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war. Mehta authored five books, which were translated into 21 languages and achieved bestseller status internationally. Her works frequently explored India's history and cultural nuances, aiming to bridge understanding between India and the West. She also received the Padma Shri award in 2019, though she declined it. Mehta passed away in Delhi in 2023.
