Carl August Ehrensvärd was a Swedish naval officer, artist, and architect known for caricatures and writings.
Count Carl August Ehrensvärd, born in Stockholm in 1745 and passing away in Örebro in 1800, led a dual life as a dedicated naval officer and a multifaceted artist. While his naval career spanned his entire existence, his lasting legacy is largely attributed to his witty and often satirical caricatures. These drawings, typically adorning his personal correspondence, frequently depicted well-known figures of his time in a humorous and exaggerated style. Beyond his visual art, Ehrensvärd also engaged in writing, with some of his literary contributions being compiled and published by the Svenska Vitterhetssamfundet. His intellectual contributions were recognized when he was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1790. Ehrensvärd's artistic output extended to neo-classical architecture, showcasing a diverse range of creative talents.
