Gordon Frederick Browne (1858–1932) was a highly productive English artist and illustrator, particularly noted for his work on children's books during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was the son of the notable illustrator Hablot Knight Browne, also known as "Phiz." Browne received his art education at the Heatherley School of Fine Art and South Kensington Schools, where he emphasized drawing from life. He worked in watercolor and pen and ink, becoming a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and a founding member of the Royal Society of British Artists.

Browne's career was marked by an immense volume of work, illustrating an estimated 3,660 images across numerous books and periodicals. He was especially known for his dedication to historical accuracy, meticulously researching and collecting artifacts like armor and weapons to ensure authentic depictions in his illustrations. He also took great care to understand the texts he illustrated, often rereading them to grasp the details of scenes. Beyond illustration, Browne also wrote and self-illustrated several children's books under the pseudonym "A. Nobody."
