Barbara Ann Brennan

Barbara Ann Brennan (1939-2022) was an American author, spiritual healer, businesswoman, and teacher recognized for her work in energy healing. She held degrees in physics and atmospheric physics, having worked at NASA before pursuing studies in human energy fields. Brennan developed her own healing practice and training programs, influenced by figures like Eva and John Pierrakos and Rosalyn L. Bruyere. Her work is considered a significant contribution to the field of spiritual healing, with her first book, "Hands of Light," achieving widespread recognition.

Brennan proposed a seven-layer model of the human energy field (HEF) and viewed chakras as energy processors. She developed techniques such as "full spectrum healing" and "spiritual surgery" to address these energy layers. Her second book, "Light Emerging," introduced the concept of "hara" as a dimension of intentionality crucial for manifestation and the foundation of the HEF. She also discussed the "corestar" as representing individual divinity.

In 1982, Brennan established the Barbara Brennan School of Healing (BBSH), which has trained professional healers globally and has had branches in Europe and Japan. The school continues to teach her methods. Brennan also held PhD and DTh degrees from unaccredited universities. She was listed among the world's most spiritually influential people in 2011.

Barbara Ann Brennan initially pursued a scientific education, earning Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Physics and Atmospheric Physics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She further applied her scientific background during a six-year tenure at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. Transitioning into the realm of esoteric studies, Brennan participated in programs focusing on the "human energy field" at various institutions. She completed extensive training in Therapeutic Counselling, Core Energetics, and Spiritual Healership, drawing significant influence from the Pathwork system founded by Eva and John Pierrakos and the work of Wilhelm Reich and Alexander Lowen. Brennan became a recognized Pathwork Helper and Core Energetics therapist, also benefiting from seminars with Rev. Rosalyn L. Bruyere.

Brennan's seminal work, "Hands of Light," is a foundational text in spiritual healing, detailing her comprehensive model of the human energy field (HEF). She proposed a seven-layer structure for the HEF, with each layer characterized by distinct frequencies and functions. Brennan described chakras as vital transformers processing universal energy and facilitating the expression of consciousness and the psycho-physical self. Her approach to energy healing was notably methodical. She developed "full spectrum healing" to work with the seven layers of the HEF and introduced "spiritual surgery," a technique she claimed operated on the fifth energy layer through the assistance of a spirit surgeon.

In her subsequent book, "Light Emerging," Brennan expanded her theoretical framework by introducing the concept of "hara," which she defined as a dimension of "intentionality." Hara, in her model, anchors the human body in material existence until life's purpose is realized, functioning as the fundamental basis for the human energy field. She posited that a healthy hara enables individuals to naturally pursue and fulfill their life's purpose, and that healing the hara is profoundly beneficial for the auric field and consequently, the physical body. Brennan also referenced the "corestar," describing it as the individual's divine essence, intrinsically connected to universal divinity.

In 1982, Barbara Ann Brennan transitioned from her private healing practice to establish the Barbara Brennan School of Healing (BBSH), an institution dedicated to training professional healers worldwide. The school, currently located in Florida, is licensed by the State of Florida. Brennan also founded international branches, including the Barbara Brennan School of Healing Europe (BBSHE) and a branch in Tokyo, Japan, though these later ceased operations. BBSH has produced thousands of graduates and maintains a global network of teachers and practitioners. The school offers both a non-accredited Bachelor of Arts degree in Brennan Healing Science and a certificate program, continuing to disseminate her teachings and methods with plans for future global expansion.
