Grania Davis was an American author and editor of science fiction and fantasy, known for her work with Avram Davidson.

Grania Eve Kaiman Davis (1943-2017) was an American writer and editor specializing in science fiction and fantasy. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and raised in Hollywood, California, she married author Avram Davidson in the early 1960s. The couple had a son, Ethan, and lived in various locations, including New York City and Mexico, before their amicable divorce. Davis later lived in San Rafael, California, with her second husband, Stephen L. Davis.

Her career included writing her own stories and novels, as well as editing. She played a significant role in editing the posthumous works of her former husband, Avram Davidson. Her short fiction appeared in numerous genre publications and collections. One of her collaborations with Avram Davidson, "The Boss in the Wall" (1998), received a Nebula Award nomination for Best Novella. Davis passed away on April 28, 2017.

Literary Contributions

Grania Davis established herself as a writer and editor within the science fiction and fantasy genres. Her own published works include several novels and short stories, such as "Proud Peacock and the Mallard" (1976), "Doctor Grass" (1978), and "The Rainbow Annals" (1980). A collection of her short stories, "Tree of Life, Book of Death: The Treasures of Grania Davis," was published in 2013. She also co-authored works with her former husband, Avram Davidson, including "Marco Polo and the Sleeping Beauty" (1998) and "The Boss in the Wall: A Treatise on the House Devil" (1998), the latter of which earned a Nebula Award nomination.

A significant aspect of Grania Davis's career was her involvement in editing. She served as a primary editor for the posthumous publications of Avram Davidson, her first husband. Her editorial contributions extended to several collections and anthologies, often co-editing with other notable figures in the field. These include "The Avram Davidson Treasury" (1998) with Robert Silverberg, "Everybody Has Somebody in Heaven: Essential Jewish Tales of the Spirit" (2000) with Jack Dann, and multiple projects co-edited with Henry Wessells such as "The Scarlet Fig" (2005) and "The Other 19th Century" (2001).
