A comedy film about aspiring writers whose lives are disrupted by one member's unexpected success.
Authors Anonymous is a 2014 American comedy film directed by Ellie Kanner. The movie follows a group of dysfunctional, unpublished writers who welcome a new member named Hannah into their clique. To their surprise, Hannah achieves overnight success, landing a literary agent and a Hollywood film deal for her manuscript, despite having minimal writing experience. This sudden rise to fame causes resentment within the group, particularly for members like Colette Mooney, who struggles with constant rejections, and Henry Obert, who suffers from writer's block and harbors a crush on Hannah. Another member, John K. Butzin, pursues a delusional path of self-publishing. As Hannah's success grows, she finds maintaining relationships with her fellow writers increasingly difficult but attempts to encourage Henry to resume writing.
The film features a cast including Kaley Cuoco as Hannah, Chris Klein as Henry Obert, Tricia Helfer as Sigrid Hagenguth, Jonathan Banks as David Kelleher, Jonathan Bennett as William Bruce, Teri Polo as Colette Mooney, Dennis Farina as John K. Butzin, and Dylan Walsh as Alan Mooney. Filmed in Los Angeles in August 2012, it includes one of Dennis Farina's final screen performances. The film was distributed through video on demand and a limited theatrical release. Upon its release, Authors Anonymous received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics.
