Mildred Grieveson, writing under the pseudonym Anne Mather, is a British author renowned for her extensive contributions to the romance novel genre, having penned over 160 books. Her writing journey began in childhood, with her first finished manuscript, 'Caroline,' published in 1965, marking the start of her career under the Anne Mather name. Grieveson also used the pseudonyms Caroline Fleming and Cardine Fleming for some of her works. Her novel 'Leopard in the Snow' was adapted into a film in 1978. She was a launch author for the Harlequin Presents line in 1973, a move towards more sensual romance narratives. Grieveson, who married young and became a housewife, found encouragement from her husband to pursue her writing, balancing it with household duties and raising her two children. She now has two grandchildren.

Born Mildred Grieveson in England on October 10, 1946, she harbored a lifelong ambition to write. Her childhood was filled with storytelling, evolving from simple adventures to more passionate themes. Though her mother sometimes discarded these early manuscripts due to tidiness concerns, Grieveson continued to write. She married at a young age and embraced the role of a housewife. It was her husband who encouraged her to submit her work to publishers, leading her to complete her first novel, 'Caroline.' This book, published when she was just 19 in 1965, launched her career as Anne Mather.

Anne Mather's initial publications included hardback editions by Robert Hale Ltd, with Mills & Boon later releasing paperback versions. Her first novel published entirely by Mills & Boon was 'Dangerous Enchantment' in 1969. A significant development in her career occurred in 1973 when she became a founding author for Harlequin Presents. This new line offered more explicit romantic content compared to the earlier Harlequin Romance series. Mather was selected for this role due to her established popularity and prolific output, alongside authors Violet Winspear and Anne Hampson. Her novel 'Leopard in the Snow' achieved wider recognition through its adaptation into a film in 1978.

Beyond her primary pseudonym Anne Mather, Mildred Grieveson also wrote under the names Caroline Fleming and Cardine Fleming. Some works initially published as Caroline Fleming were later reissued under the Anne Mather name.
