Activism and "The List"
Amy Siskind is widely recognized for her role as an activist and writer, particularly for her project documenting the Trump administration. Beginning in November 2016, she started compiling a weekly list of events she deemed outside the norm for American democracy, sharing these observations on social media. This effort culminated in the publication of "The List: A Week-by-Week Reckoning of Trump's First Year" in March 2018. The Library of Congress began archiving her weekly reports in July 2017. Siskind also launched "The Weekly List" podcast in 2018 to accompany her lists, which received recognition from publications like Forbes and Marie Claire. Her public stance has led to significant attention, including death threats. In 2021, she donated the collection of "The List" to the Annenberg School library.
The New Agenda and Advocacy
In 2008, Siskind co-founded The New Agenda, an organization committed to advancing the well-being of women and girls through systemic change in various societal spheres, including media, the workplace, education, and home life. As president of the organization, she has focused on critical issues such as pay discrimination and sexual harassment. Siskind was an early adopter of the Me Too movement, expressing her support shortly after its inception. Her activism has also involved community organizing, such as arranging an anti-hate vigil in her community following the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, an event that drew an uninvited appearance from the founder of the Proud Boys.
