Alfred Henry Lewis established himself as a journalist early in his career, working for the Chicago Times and later becoming an editor at the Chicago Times-Herald. By the late 19th century, his focus shifted towards investigative journalism and muckraking, contributing articles to publications like Cosmopolitan.
