Aaron Mahnke

Aaron Mahnke is recognized for his work in podcasting and television, most notably the "Lore" franchise. Initially working as a freelance graphic designer and writer after earning a psychology degree, Mahnke began his creative journey by self-publishing thriller novels. He also produced an early podcast. His major breakthrough came in 2015 with the launch of the "Lore" podcast, which delved into local mythology and folklore, drawing on his background in psychology and influences from shows like "Unsolved Mysteries." The podcast's success led to an adaptation into an Amazon Prime Video series and a collaboration with iHeartMedia for further podcasting projects. Mahnke has since expanded into producing and hosting various other podcasts, including fictional narrative series, and has authored books based on his work.

Mahnke's "Lore" podcast, launched in March 2015, originated from PDF files he shared with readers of his earlier thriller novels. The significant popularity of the "Lore" podcast led to its adaptation into a television series on Amazon Prime Video, which premiered in October 2017. The show featured Mahnke as host, presenting stories from the podcast in a visual format alongside dramatizations. In the same year, Mahnke began releasing a book series titled "The World of Lore" through Penguin Random House. These books compiled and adapted transcripts from past podcast episodes, mirroring the project's initial written origins and further expanding the "Lore" universe for his audience.

In 2018, Mahnke entered into an exclusive partnership with iHeartMedia, establishing the production company Grim & Mild. Through this collaboration, he produced and hosted shows like "Unobscured" and "Cabinet of Curiosities," and served as executive producer for other podcasts, including "Noble Blood" and "Strange Arrivals." Seeking to explore fictional storytelling, Mahnke collaborated with Lauren Shippen on "Bridgewater" in 2021, a podcast set in the Bridgewater Triangle, which had previously been a topic on "Lore." He also took on executive producer roles for fictional podcasts like "12 Ghosts" and "Havoc Town," and saw his thriller novel "Consumed" adapted into a podcast in 2024.
