Zarina Baloch, born in 1931, was a prominent Sindhi folk singer, composer, actress, and writer from Pakistan. Her career spanned music, radio, television, and teaching, where she worked for over three decades. She gained recognition for her powerful songs, often carrying messages of resistance and social commentary. Baloch was a vocal opponent of military dictatorships in Pakistan, particularly the regime of General Zia-ul-Haq, which led to her imprisonment in 1979.

Beyond her artistic contributions, Zarina Baloch was a dedicated political activist and social worker. She co-founded several organizations aimed at empowering women and advocating for Sindhi rights. Her activism against feudalism, gender discrimination, and martial law earned her the affectionate title of "JeeJee" (mother) among the Sindhi people. She was proficient in several languages, including Sindhi, Urdu, Seraiki, Balochi, Persian, Arabic, and Gujarati. Zarina Baloch passed away in 2005 from brain cancer.

Her outspoken opposition to General Zia-ul-Haq's military dictatorship led to her arrest and imprisonment in 1979. She was a leading figure in protests against martial law and fought against social injustices like feudalism and gender discrimination.
