Sheila Geddes

Cormorant Books Inc. is a Canadian publishing house established in 1986 by Jan and Gary Geddes. Initially operating from their farm near Dunvegan, Ontario, the company focused on introducing new Canadian authors, with an early emphasis on poetry. A significant early success was the publication of Nino Ricci's novel "Lives of the Saints" in 1990, which garnered critical acclaim and won the Governor General's Award for English-language fiction.

The company transitioned to new ownership in 2001 and is now based in Toronto under publisher Marc Côté. Cormorant Books continues its commitment to Canadian literature, including works by emerging writers, reissues of out-of-print Canadian classics, and English translations of Quebecois authors. In 2010, they expanded their offerings by launching Dancing Cat Books, an imprint dedicated to young adult literature. The press has been recognized with several awards, including multiple Libris Awards for Small Press of the Year.
