Scott Alexander King

Kwame Alexander, born in 1968, is an American author known for his poetry and children's fiction. He was born in Manhattan and raised in Virginia, with parents who were involved in publishing and education. Alexander initially pursued premedical studies at Virginia Tech before shifting his focus to writing after taking a class with poet Nikki Giovanni. He has since received an honorary doctorate from American University.

His literary career includes a wide range of works, from picture books like "Acoustic Rooster and His Barnyard Band" to verse novels such as "The Door of No Return." Alexander is also recognized for his illustrated poem "The Undefeated," which earned him a Newbery Honor.
