Philip Yancey resided in Colorado with his wife, Janet, whom he married in 1970. His career involved extensive international travel, visiting over 85 countries. Yancey faced significant personal challenges, including a severe neck injury from a motor vehicle accident in 2007, from which he recovered. He achieved a personal goal of climbing all of Colorado's peaks over 14,000 feet, completing the final three after his accident. In the fall of 2022, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, describing it as an unwanted gift.
