Philip Carr-Gomm

Philip Carr-Gomm, born in 1952, is an English author, psychologist, and prominent figure in the field of Druidry. He served as a leader and former Chosen Chief of The Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids (OBOD). His spiritual journey began at a young age, influenced by figures like Ross Nichols, the founder of OBOD, and later Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov and Peter Deunov. Carr-Gomm studied meditation and later pursued psychology, training as a psychotherapist. He has authored numerous books exploring Druid traditions, psychology, and comparative spirituality. His work often bridges esoteric traditions with psychological understanding.

Carr-Gomm's spiritual path began in his youth when he met Ross Nichols, founder of The Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids (OBOD). He dedicated himself to studying Druidry and meditation, also engaging with the teachings of Bulgarian mystic Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov and his teacher Peter Deunov. After a period focusing on psychology and training as a psychotherapist, Carr-Gomm was invited to lead OBOD in 1988. During his tenure, he structured the Order's teachings into a distance-learning program, significantly contributing to its global growth. He stepped down as Chosen Chief after thirty-two years, leaving a legacy of expanded influence for the organization.

Philip Carr-Gomm developed a spiritual practice known as Druidcraft, which integrates elements of both Druidry and Wicca. This synthesis is also the subject of one of his books. Carr-Gomm posits that the distinctions between modern Wicca and Druidism are not solely rooted in ancient historical divergence but may also stem from the personal relationships and differing approaches of key figures like Gerald Gardner and Ross Nichols in the mid-20th century. His work in this area explores the potential for combining these traditions into a new, unified practice.
