Peter F Hamilton

Born in Rutland, England in 1960, Peter F. Hamilton is a British author primarily known for his contributions to the science fiction genre, particularly space opera. He did not pursue higher education, having focused on science in school until age eighteen and ceasing English studies at sixteen due to a lack of interest at the time. Hamilton began his writing career in 1987, with his first short story appearing in Fear Magazine in 1988. His debut novel, Mindstar Rising, was published in 1993, and was followed by two more books that formed the Greg Mandel trilogy. He subsequently penned The Night's Dawn Trilogy, a significant space opera work. Hamilton's universe-building continued with the Commonwealth Saga, which incorporates the Void Trilogy and The Chronicle of the Fallers. More recently, he has explored new universes with the Salvation Sequence, a space opera series launched in 2018, and the young adult sci-fi Arkship Trilogy.

Reflecting on his early education, Hamilton mentioned in an interview that he stopped studying English and literature at sixteen, as he was not interested in them at that stage, having focused on science until he was eighteen. This background in science likely informed his approach to crafting detailed and complex science fiction worlds.
