He took over as editor of 'The Ley Hunter' magazine in 1976, and his research has often focused on critically examining the mystical claims surrounding these alignments. Devereux has argued that many perceived alignments are simply chance occurrences on maps and that the idea of ley lines possessing mystic power may have originated with authors like Dion Fortune in the 1930s and was later linked to UFO sightings by Aimé Michel and Tony Wedd. His work, including the book 'Fairy Paths & Spirit Roads', suggests that linear features at ancient sites can be interpreted as 'paths of spirits' or sacred roads, drawing parallels with indigenous beliefs.
