Ross E. Dunn is an American historian and author, specializing in world history and the travels of Ibn Battuta.
Ross E. Dunn is an American historian and writer recognized for his contributions to the study of world history. He holds the title of Professor Emeritus from San Diego State University. Dunn's academic background includes graduate studies in World History at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1970. His involvement in the academic community is further evidenced by his presidency of the World History Association in 1984 and his current role as Co-Director for World History, collaborating with the National Center for History in the Schools.
Dunn is the author of several books, most notably "The Adventures of Ibn Battuta," which explores the journeys of the renowned 14th-century Muslim traveler. This work, initially published in 1986 and later reissued by the University of California Press, primarily focuses on Ibn Battuta's travels between his Moroccan homeland and Mecca. He also co-authored "History on Trial: Culture Wars and the Teaching of the Past," a highly regarded publication in its field.
