Robert Lowell Moore, born in 1896, was an American businessman best known as the co-founder of the international Sheraton Hotels and Resorts chain. He established this venture with his college roommate, Ernest Henderson. Moore's early life included attending high school in Wayland, Massachusetts, and Harvard College, where he met Henderson. He interrupted his studies at Harvard to serve as an ambulance driver in France during World War I and later as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Service. Following his military service, Moore completed his education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning a degree in business engineering in 1921.

Moore and Henderson began their hotel business in 1934, focusing on acquiring and revitalizing underperforming real estate, particularly hotels. Their third acquisition, the Sheraton Hotel, inspired the name for their growing enterprise. They later acquired the Copley Plaza in 1944, which became their flagship property. By 1948, their company had merged to form the Sheraton Corp. of America, eventually being purchased by International Telephone & Telegraph Corp. in 1968. Robert Lowell Moore passed away in 1986. He was also the father of author Robin Moore.
