Liz Greene

Liz Greene, born in 1946, is an American-British author and astrologer recognized for her significant contributions to psychological astrology. Her work integrates Jungian psychology and other depth psychology principles with astrological interpretation. Greene is a principal writer for astro.com, the online platform for her company, Astrodienst.

She collaborated with Alois Treindl of Astrodienst to develop computer-generated horoscopes that simulate personal chart interpretations. Greene co-founded the Centre for Psychological Astrology (CPA) in London with Howard Sasportas, an organization she continues to direct. She also heads CPA Press, which publishes specialized astrological works. Greene holds a doctorate from the University of Bristol for her thesis on "The Kabbalah in British Occultism 1860-1940."

Greene's primary contribution lies in the field of psychological astrology, a branch that applies principles of depth psychology, particularly Jungian psychology, to astrological interpretation. Her seminal work, "Saturn: A New Look at an Old Devil" (1976), re-examined the traditional perception of Saturn, moving away from its portrayal as solely a planet of misfortune. Instead, she recast its symbolism within a Jungian framework, offering a more nuanced understanding of its role in the psyche. Many of her books, often based on her lectures, explore these psychoanalytic applications to astrology, providing a framework for understanding the human psyche through the astrological chart.

Co-founding the Centre for Psychological Astrology (CPA) in London with Howard Sasportas marked a significant step in establishing a formal institution for this approach. Following Sasportas's passing, Charles Harvey took over as co-director until his death, with Greene continuing her leadership role. Under her direction, the CPA also established CPA Press, a publishing house dedicated to releasing specialized astrological literature. This initiative ensures the dissemination of advanced and in-depth astrological research and writing, furthering the field.

Beyond her core astrological work, Greene has also explored other literary avenues. In 1980, she authored "The Dreamer of the Vine," a historical novel touching upon themes related to Nostradamus and the Jesus bloodline. She has also collaborated on creative projects, such as co-authoring the "Mythic Tarot" deck with Juliet Sharman-Burke. Her academic pursuits culminated in a doctorate from the University of Bristol in 2010, awarded for her thesis examining "The Kabbalah in British Occultism 1860-1940," demonstrating a broader interest in esoteric traditions and their historical development.
