Chambers was co-founder of Thimble Press and the magazine 'Signal' with his wife Nancy, dedicated to promoting literature for young readers. Their efforts were recognized with the Eleanor Farjeon Award in 1982. He authored the acclaimed "Dance sequence" of six novels, including 'Postcards from No Man's Land,' which earned him both the British Carnegie Medal and the American Printz Award. His significant impact on children's literature was further acknowledged with the international Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2002. Chambers passed away on May 11, 2025, at the age of 90.
