John Micklethwait is an English journalist, editor-in-chief of Bloomberg News, and former editor of The Economist.

Richard John Micklethwait, born in London in 1962, is a distinguished English journalist. He pursued his education at Ampleforth College and Magdalen College, Oxford, where he studied history. Before embarking on his journalism career, Micklethwait spent two years working for Chase Manhattan Bank.

His extensive career in journalism began with The Economist in 1987. He held various significant roles within the publication, including U.S. editor, head of the New York Bureau, and editor of the Business Section. Micklethwait also established The Economist's office in Los Angeles and reported on business and politics across diverse global regions such as the United States, Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. He ascended to the position of editor-in-chief of The Economist in 2006 and was recognized as Editors' Editor in 2010. Since February 2015, he has served as the editor-in-chief of Bloomberg News. Micklethwait has also been appointed as a Trustee of the British Museum and received a CBE for his contributions to journalism and economics.
