John Bonner

John Bonner is an American writer who has authored numerous books and articles concerning economic and financial matters. He established Agora Financial and is also a co-founder of Bonner & Partners publishing. His writings have appeared in publications such as MoneyWeek magazine and the opinion blog LewRockwell.com, and he maintains a daily financial column titled "Bill Bonner's Diary."

Born in 1948, Bonner pursued his education at the University of New Mexico and Georgetown University Law School. His early career involved working with Jim Davidson at the National Taxpayers Union. He also served as a director for MoneyWeek between 2003 and 2009. Bonner has collaborated on several books, including "Financial Reckoning Day: Surviving The Soft Depression of The 21st Century" and "Empire of Debt" with Addison Wiggin, and "Mobs, Messiahs and Markets" with Lila Rajiva. The latter work received the GetAbstract International Book Award in 2008. He has also co-authored shorter works and co-edited an essay collection.

In his financial books and "The Daily Reckoning," Bonner has expressed concerns about the future economic stability of the United States. He attributes these potential challenges to various economic and demographic factors, notably the nation's significant trade deficit. Bonner posits that American foreign policy actions resemble imperialistic endeavors, and the expenses associated with maintaining such an empire could hasten the country's eventual decline. He also explores the concept of collective delusions, suggesting that mob mentality and mass delusions are inherent aspects of the human experience. In 2015, Bonner issued a warning regarding the U.S. credit system, which has been fundamental to the economy since the 1950s, predicting its inevitable failure and a subsequent collapse of the banking system.
