James Redfield Carol Adrienne

James Redfield, born in 1950, is an American author, lecturer, screenwriter, and film producer. He developed an early interest in Eastern philosophies like Taoism and Zen, studying sociology at Auburn University before earning a master's in counseling. For over 15 years, Redfield worked as a therapist for adolescents, drawing on human potential movement theories to aid his clients, focusing on intuition and psychic phenomena. He transitioned to writing full-time in 1989, blending his diverse interests in psychology, philosophy, science, and mysticism.

His debut novel, 'The Celestine Prophecy,' initially self-published in 1992, achieved massive success, becoming one of the most financially successful self-published books ever. Acquired by Warner Books, it topped the New York Times Best Seller list and became a global phenomenon, selling over 20 million copies and translated into numerous languages. Redfield continued this success with sequels and related non-fiction works exploring spiritual awareness and mystical concepts. He also co-authored experiential guides and contributed to collaborative works on spirituality and evolution.

James Redfield grew up in rural Alabama, where he cultivated an early interest in Eastern spiritual traditions such as Taoism and Zen. His first novel, 'The Celestine Prophecy,' was self-published in 1992 and quickly gained significant traction with booksellers and readers. This led to its acquisition by Warner Books, and subsequent publication as a hardcover in 1994. The novel rapidly ascended to the number one position on The New York Times Best Seller list, eventually spending over three years on the list and selling more than 20 million copies worldwide across 34 languages.

Following the immense success of 'The Celestine Prophecy,' Redfield published 'The Tenth Insight: Holding the Vision' in 1996, which also became a bestseller. Together, these two books spent a considerable amount of time on the New York Times Best Seller list, establishing Redfield as a leading author. He further explored the themes of emerging spirituality introduced in his novels through his 1997 non-fiction book, 'The Celestine Vision: Living the New Spiritual Awareness.' The adventure parable series continued with 'The Secret of Shambhala: In Search of the Eleventh Insight' in 1999. Redfield also collaborated on other works, including 'God and the Evolving Universe' and a book detailing the making of the film adaptation of 'The Celestine Prophecy.'
