The Nobel Prize in Literature (Swedish: Nobelpriset i litteratur) is awarded annually by the Swedish Academy to authors who, according to the Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel, the benefactor of the prize, have produced "in the field of literature the most outstanding work in an ideal direction".
