Before committing to acting, he worked briefly in hospital catering. Joseph's formal acting training began at Studio '68 of Theatre Arts in London, followed by studies at the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). His foundational theatrical experiences included performances with the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Royal National Theatre.
Theatrical Career
Joseph's extensive theatre career includes notable performances with the Royal Shakespeare Company, earning him an Ian Charleson Award for his roles in 'King Lear,' 'Love's Labour's Lost,' and 'The Last Days of Don Juan' in 1990. He has portrayed iconic characters such as Othello and Brutus, with the latter being in an RSC production of 'Julius Caesar' set in Africa. In 2004, he directed a Channel 4-filmed project adapting 'Romeo & Juliet' with young people from a deprived London area. Joseph also wrote and performed a solo play, 'Sancho: An Act of Remembrance,' based on the life of Ignatius Sancho, which toured internationally. He also starred as Ebenezer Scrooge in 'A Christmas Carol' at the Old Vic.
