Erich Von D Niken

Erich von Däniken was a Swiss author known for his pseudoscientific books suggesting that extraterrestrials, or "ancient astronauts," visited Earth and significantly impacted early human civilizations. His most famous work, "Chariots of the Gods?" (1968), proposed that ancient structures like the Egyptian pyramids and Stonehenge, as well as various artifacts and ancient art, were evidence of advanced alien technology and influence. Von Däniken also posited that religions originated from encounters with alien beings.

Despite the widespread popularity of his ideas, von Däniken's work is largely dismissed by the scientific and academic communities, who classify it as pseudohistory, pseudoarchaeology, and pseudoscience due to numerous logical and factual inaccuracies. His career was also marked by convictions for fraud and embezzlement, some of which occurred while he was writing his books. He co-founded the Archaeology, Astronautics and SETI Research Association and created the Mystery Park theme park in Switzerland.

His most successful book, "Chariots of the Gods?," underwent significant rewriting by another author, Utz Utermann, before its publication.
