The title 'Addams Family Values' is a satirical nod to a 1992 speech by then-Vice President Dan Quayle, who controversially linked the Los Angeles riots to a breakdown in 'family values.' Production commenced in February 1993. Actor Raul Julia's health reportedly declined during filming, and he passed away in October 1994. The film's setting for Camp Chippewa was filmed in California's Sequoia National Park and adjacent Sequoia Lake. Michael Jackson was slated to contribute a song, 'Family Thing,' but it was ultimately unused due to contractual disagreements, not the child abuse allegations that were rumored.

Addams Family Values garnered significantly better reviews than its predecessor, earning a 75% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 61 out of 100. Critics praised the film's dark humor, performances, and Paul Rudnick's subversive screenplay.
