Roy Kwong Chun-yu is a Hong Kong politician and novelist known for his romantic fiction and his involvement in the pro-democracy movement.
Roy Kwong Chun-yu, born in 1983, is a Hong Kong politician and novelist. He has been a member of the Democratic Party and served on the Yuen Long District Council. Kwong gained a seat in the Legislative Council of Hong Kong in 2016 via the District Council (Second) "super seat". He, along with other pro-democracy legislators, resigned in November 2020 following the disqualification of four pro-democracy lawmakers by the central government. Prior to his political career, Kwong worked at a youth center and later became a community officer for a Democratic Party district councillor. He entered electoral politics in 2007, winning a seat on the Yuen Long District Council, and was subsequently re-elected multiple times. He also ran for the Legislative Council in earlier elections. During the 2019-20 protests, he was observed calling for calm. In September 2019, he was assaulted near his home, an incident his party alleged was an organized attempt to intimidate protest supporters. In January 2021, he was among 53 pro-democracy figures arrested under the national security law for alleged subversion related to unofficial primary elections, and was later disqualified as a district councillor for invalid oath-taking.

His literary debut, "Love You Like the First Time We Met," was published in 2014. The same year saw his second book, "There is a Kind of Happiness Called Forgetting," achieve notable sales, exceeding 10,000 copies at the Hong Kong Book Fair. Kwong also gained online attention for a short love essay titled "The Last Time You Were On WhatsApp" in 2012, which garnered significant engagement on Facebook. By 2015, he had authored seven romantic novels, and his distinct writing style became known online as "Kwong-style."
