William John Warner, widely known as Cheiro, was an Irish figure prominent in occult circles during the early 20th century. He adopted the name Count Louis le Warner de Hamon and derived his professional moniker, Cheiro, from the practice of palmistry. Cheiro claimed to have learned his skills in palmistry, astrology, and Chaldean numerology during extensive travels in India as a youth. He gained renown for applying these divinatory arts to offer personal readings to a clientele of notable figures and to forecast global events.

His career saw him reading the palms and fortunes of many celebrated individuals from Europe and America, including literary figures, politicians, and royalty. Cheiro meticulously documented these encounters, encouraging clients to record their impressions in his guest book. His writings and predictions, particularly those concerning world events and the future of Palestine, garnered significant attention. Cheiro's popular appeal extended even to skeptics, who sought his insights. He passed away in Hollywood in 1936, having amassed considerable wealth from his work.

Born William John Warner in Ireland, he later used the name Count Louis Hamon. Cheiro asserted that his foundational knowledge in palmistry, astrology, and Chaldean numerology was acquired during his teenage years in India. He described a period of study under a Chitpavan Brahmin guru in Maharashtra, where he gained access to ancient texts on hand analysis. Following two years of dedicated study, he returned to London to establish his practice as a palmist.

Cheiro became a sought-after palmist and fortune-teller for prominent figures across Europe and North America. His client list included well-known personalities such as Mark Twain, Sarah Bernhardt, Oscar Wilde, and members of royalty like the Prince of Wales. He kept a guest book where these clients could record their experiences, with some offering testimonials to his accuracy. Cheiro also made broader predictions, including the eventual return of Jewish people to Palestine and its renaming as Israel.

Cheiro authored numerous books focused on fortune-telling and occult subjects, many of which remain in print today. His writings covered palmistry, astrology, and numerology, offering guidance and analysis based on his divinatory systems. His autobiographical work, 'Cheiro's Memoirs,' provided accounts of his interactions with influential figures of his time. His fictional work, 'A Study of Destiny,' has also seen modern republication, highlighting his enduring, albeit niche, literary presence.
