Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, John Michael Green moved with his family through various locations before settling in Orlando, Florida. He attended boarding school in Alabama and later Kenyon College, where he majored in English and religious studies, graduating in 2000. Following his education, Green spent time as a student chaplain at a children's hospital, an experience that profoundly impacted him and later influenced his writing, particularly "The Fault in Our Stars."
