C S Lovett

Jonathan Ira Lovett, born in 1982, is an American podcaster, comedian, and former speechwriter. He co-founded Crooked Media with Jon Favreau and Tommy Vietor after working together in the Obama administration's White House. Lovett is a frequent host on Crooked Media's podcasts, including "Pod Save America" and "Lovett or Leave It." His earlier career included writing speeches for Senator Hillary Clinton and President Barack Obama, as well as contributing to television shows like "1600 Penn" and "The Newsroom." He also appeared as a contestant on "Survivor 47" in 2024.

Lovett's background includes a Reform Jewish upbringing on Long Island and a mathematics degree from Williams College, where his senior thesis was published. After college, he worked as a paralegal and performed stand-up comedy. His political career began with volunteering for John Kerry's campaign, leading to speechwriting roles for Senator Clinton and later President Obama. Notably, he secretly officiated the first same-sex marriage at the White House before it was administration policy. He left the White House to pursue a career in screenwriting and comedy, eventually co-creating "1600 Penn" and working on "The Newsroom."

During his tenure, he also secretly performed the first same-sex marriage ceremony at the White House.

In 2011, Lovett transitioned from his White House role to pursue screenwriting and comedy in California. He co-created and served as an executive producer and writer for the NBC sitcom "1600 Penn" from 2012 to 2013. He also contributed as a writer, producer, and advisor for the third season of HBO's "The Newsroom." Concurrently, he wrote opinion pieces for publications like The Atlantic between 2012 and 2015. In 2016, Lovett, along with former Obama administration colleagues Jon Favreau and Tommy Vietor, launched "Keepin' it 1600," a political podcast. Following the 2016 election, they established Crooked Media, a liberal media company, with "Pod Save America" as its flagship podcast. Lovett is a regular host on this and other Crooked Media productions, including "Lovett or Leave It," a panel show he began hosting in 2017.
