Stockton Heath is a civil parish and suburb of Warrington, England, situated north of the Bridgewater Canal and south of the Manchester Ship Canal. The area boasts a history stretching back to Roman times, with evidence of industrial settlements and a possible temple. While historically described as a less significant hamlet, it experienced development from the 19th century onwards.

The village center features Victoria Square, a crossroads of major roads, and has seen redevelopment alongside conservation efforts. It is home to various businesses, including modern bars and restaurants, as well as traditional pubs. The area’s population is around 6,400, with a predominantly White ethnicity and a high rate of owner-occupied housing. Stockton Heath is also known for being the birthplace or former residence of several notable figures, including entertainers George Formby Sr. and Jr., rugby player Bob Fulton, science fiction writer Bob Shaw, and television presenter Martin Roberts.

Stockton Heath's history is deeply rooted, evidenced by a Roman road traversing the area, now known as Roman Road. Excavations have uncovered a significant Roman industrial settlement in the vicinity, yielding artifacts such as a rare Roman mask. Evidence suggests a possible temple dedicated to Minerva, along with industries focused on pottery and glass bead paste, and a mysterious trapezoidal building that some speculate may have been an auxiliary fort. Although the name 'Stockton Heath' appears to be of later origin, with the area described as a hamlet of little consequence until the 19th century, historical records indicate a family named Stockton resided there from the late 13th to at least the 15th century. The Bridgewater Canal, a crucial transport link, reached Stockton Heath in 1772, marking a period of increased accessibility and development.

The village has been home to several individuals who have made significant contributions to arts and culture. George Formby Sr., a music hall comedian, lived in Stockton Heath with his family, and it was from here that his son, George Formby Jr., the renowned film and stage comedian famous for his ukulele performances and songs like 'When I'm Cleaning Windows', began his entertainment career. Their former home, Hillcrest, is a listed building. The science fiction writer Bob Shaw also resided in Stockton Heath at 98 London Road, with his funeral wake held at the local Red Lion pub. Additionally, Australian rugby league footballer and coach Bob Fulton was born in Stockton Heath before emigrating to Australia, and television presenter Martin Roberts grew up in the village.

In contemporary times, Stockton Heath has evolved into a vibrant suburb with a mix of historical preservation and modern development. Much of the village center has been designated a conservation area since 1988 to maintain its character, yet this has been balanced with redevelopment, leading to the establishment of several new bars and restaurants. The village center is marked by Victoria Square, a hub at the intersection of the A49 and A56 roads, which has seen transformations, including the redevelopment of the former Victoria Hotel site. The area also hosts the annual Stockton Heath Festival, which began in 2008 and has grown to attract thousands of visitors, showcasing a lively community spirit.
