Born in Southsea, Hampshire, on June 15, 1912, Bruce F. Campbell developed an early interest in birds, influenced by his father's passion for nature. He pursued this interest academically, earning a BSc in biology from the University of Edinburgh and later a doctorate in comparative bird studies, distinguishing himself as one of the first field naturalists with formal scientific training.
