Alexander MacLeod is a Canadian author and professor, recognized for his short story collections and academic work.
Alexander MacLeod is a Canadian writer and university professor specializing in English, Creative Writing, and Atlantic Canada Studies at Saint Mary's University. He was born in Inverness, Nova Scotia, in 1972 and grew up in Windsor, Ontario. MacLeod pursued higher education at the University of Windsor, the University of Notre Dame, and McGill University, where he earned his PhD.
His literary career includes two published short story collections. His debut, "Light Lifting" (2010), received significant acclaim, being shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award, and winning the Margaret and John Savage First Book Award. In 2019, he was honored with an O. Henry Award for his short story "Lagomorph." His second collection, "Animal Person," was released in 2022. Beyond his writing, MacLeod has also contributed to the literary community as a judge for the Scotiabank Giller Prize in 2015. He also has a background as a national-level track and field athlete.
